Assessment
How AQA Chemistry is examined
| Paper | What's assessed | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Paper 1 | Relevant physical chemistry, and inorganic chemistry, including practical skills. Short and long answer questions | 105 (35%) |
| Paper 2 | Relevant physical chemistry, and organic chemistry, including practical skills. Short and long answer questions | 105 (35%) |
| Paper 3 | Any content and any practical skills: 40 marks on practical techniques and data analysis, 20 marks testing across the specification, 30 marks of multiple choice | 90 (30%) |
Each paper is a 2-hour written exam. Your written answers are marked against the AQA mark scheme, with feedback on what would gain you more marks.

Questions
AQA Chemistry on Markaroo
What does AQA A-Level Chemistry (7405) cover on Markaroo?
All three papers: physical chemistry (3.1), inorganic chemistry (3.2) and organic chemistry (3.3), plus practical and mathematical skills. The topic tree follows the AQA 7405 specification, so you can revise topic by topic or work through whole past papers.
How is AQA A-Level Chemistry assessed?
Three written exams, each 2 hours. Paper 1 (physical and inorganic chemistry) and Paper 2 (physical and organic chemistry) are each worth 105 marks and 35% of the A-Level. Paper 3 can test any content and practical skill and is worth 90 marks and 30%: 40 marks on practical techniques and data analysis, 20 marks testing across the specification, and 30 marks of multiple choice.
What kinds of question can I practise?
The questions from 27 AQA past papers: Papers 1, 2 and 3 for nine exam series from 2017 to 2025, 1,314 questions in all, including Paper 3's multiple choice. Many questions use structures, mechanisms, spectra and graphs, which appear with the question. A small number of parts are held back where AQA's published paper or mark scheme was incomplete.
How does Markaroo mark Chemistry answers?
Your written answers are marked by AI against the AQA mark scheme for that question, and you get a mark with feedback on what you missed. You can then rewrite your answer and have it marked again, and compare your work with the model answer for the question.
Is there a free plan for AQA Chemistry on Markaroo?
Yes. The free plan gives you your coach, your technique profile and a live predicted grade, 2 written answers marked free, and the first topic of every unit in revision notes and flashcards, including each note's quick-check quiz, which is always free and never uses up your allowance — no card required. Plus unlocks everything from £6.99 a month (add more subjects for £5 each, with a 7-day free trial): unlimited questions and AI essay marking, every topic, all model answers and the rewrite loop.
I'm studying OCR or Edexcel Chemistry. Is that covered?
Not yet. Chemistry on Markaroo is the AQA specification (7405) only. OCR and Edexcel Chemistry are built around different specifications, papers and question styles, so the questions, notes and flashcards here will not match your exams.
