Edexcel A-Level Business (9BS0) is built from four themes covering 20 topics. Theme 1, Marketing and People, covers meeting customer needs, the market, marketing mix and strategy, managing people, and entrepreneurs and leaders. Theme 2, Managing Business Activities, covers raising finance, financial planning, managing finance, resource management and external influences. Theme 3, Business Decisions and Strategy, covers objectives and strategy, business growth, decision-making techniques, influences on business decisions, assessing competitiveness and managing change. How is Edexcel A-Level Business assessed?
Edexcel Business (9BS0) has three papers. Paper 1 (9BS0/01), Marketing, people and global businesses, assesses Themes 1 and 4. Paper 2 (9BS0/02), Business activities, decisions and strategy, assesses Themes 2 and 3. Paper 3 (9BS0/03), Investigating business in a competitive environment, is synoptic across all four themes and is set on a pre-released context. Every answer is marked against four assessment objectives: AO1 Knowledge, AO2 Application, AO3 Analysis and AO4 Evaluation.
When is the Edexcel Business Paper 3 pre-release published?
Pearson publishes the Paper 3 (9BS0/03) context in November of the year before the exam, so students have several months to research the industry. You cannot take your research notes into the exam. Paper 3 is 2 hours, 100 marks and 30% of the A-level, with questions worth 8, 10, 12 and 20 marks that apply all four themes to that context.
