Papers come from the June 2018 to June 2025 series, including the January and November series. 01R and 02R are the UK versions, with different questions, so they are separate practice papers. Every set-text question is its own question, so you can filter by your text. Klara and the Sun and Western Lane are on the course list, but there are no past-paper questions on them yet.
Revision notes and flashcards cover The Whale Rider, An Inspector Calls, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, The Merchant of Venice, Pride and Prejudice, Great Expectations and the Anthology poems, plus five unseen poetry skill lessons. The other set texts have past-paper questions but no notes or flashcards yet.
Pearson published no mark scheme for the January 2019 and June 2020 papers. For those 8 papers the indicative content was written by Markaroo and used with Pearson’s own level grids; they are labelled as such in the app. The 10 unseen poetry practice papers are written by Markaroo on out-of-copyright poems and are not Pearson papers.
Assessment
How Edexcel International GCSE English Literature is examined
| Paper | Questions | Marks |
|---|---|---|
| Paper 1: Poetry and Modern Prose (2 hr, closed book) | Section A: an essay on an unseen poem (20 marks). Section B: an essay comparing two Anthology poems, one question from a choice of two (30 marks); the poems are provided. Section C: an essay on your modern prose text, one question from a choice of two (40 marks) | 90 · 60% |
| Paper 2: Modern Drama and Literary Heritage Texts (1 hr 30 min, open book) | Section A: an essay on your modern drama text, one from a choice of two (30 marks). Section B: an essay on your literary heritage text, one from a choice of two (30 marks). You may take in a clean copy of the prescribed edition | 60 · 40% |
Your essays are marked against the Pearson mark scheme and level grid for that section, with feedback on what would move you up a level. Some centres take the Paper 3 coursework instead of Paper 2. Markaroo never marks your actual coursework (non-exam assessment) submission. You can practise the same skills on past exam questions, but your coursework is marked by your teacher, and that mark is the one that counts.
Markaroo is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Pearson Edexcel. Past papers are attempted and marked inside the app, not offered as downloads.
